The right tools
Even if the right tools do not make the right gardener, it doesn't prevent… The job is easier when you are well equipped!
Choosing the right tools, adapted to your soil, but also to your body type, even your strength, is not as easy as it seems. Especially since manufacturers are storming new products to serve you better.
Starting with the basic tools.
The BBA tools in the garden
The spade is essential. Some have a rim to put the foot, which greatly facilitates the gesture. If you lack strength, or if the ground is very heavy and stony, prefer the spade fork. There are small light forks for small areas. And if the earth is light, be satisfied with the grelinette (also called "organic fork") which allows the soil to be lifted and ventilated without overturning it, thus not disturbing micro-organisms and earthworms. But in heavy terrain, it will not be enough.
The rake is essential for leveling the soil after digging and for cleaning up plant debris.
Some manufacturers make a very clever proposition: the same handle, short, long or telescopic, interchangeable for all tools. You therefore choose the type of sleeve and the length according to your size and use, and comfort is always assured.
The hoes have several functions. The long-handled hoe is used for weeding without being folded in half. The scraper has a sharp blade that cuts through the neck of weeds. Some hoes have a blade with two sharp edges, others are used to dig furrows ...
The shears is the tool at all times; we keep it in our pocket for all cleaning and small jobs.
Finally the wheelbarrow! How to do without it? In wood, metal, plastic ... Indispensable.
In addition to the perfect gardener
In addition to these basic tools, essential for the gardener, a whole host of small tools will facilitate work in the flower beds or planters of the pleasure garden: dibble, serfouette, claw, transplanter... and the essential watering can.
To maintain trees, remove dead wood, prune, delimber is perfect for cutting thick branches where the secateurs will be powerless. Some models are also equipped with a reduction gear that allows you to cut without too much effort. Their long (sometimes telescopic) handles also make work easier.
Complementary, the arboricultural saw slips easily between the branches thanks to its narrow blade and allows to remove unwanted branches.
