Acclaimed gardening writer Val Bourne advises on which trees will provide an early splash of spring - and how to cultivate them. Early blossoming trees can bring a spring garden to life with clouds of pretty soft pink and white blooms. Cherries, apples and crab apples provide the most choice for small gardens. Some flower early in the year and others are later - and blossom can vary from plum-pink through to warm-white. Many of the decorative Japanese cherries are too vigorous for small gardens.

Volunteers Harvest Apples To Prevent Food Waste In Switzerland

In addition to planting fruit trees in the buffer zone around Gunung Leuser National Park, Darma and the Nature for Change team are also helping to create income streams for farmers by encouraging goat and duck farming. Darma has donated the land behind his house so that members of the local community can keep their goats and ducks there and eventually benefit from the income they get from selling milk and eggs. When farmers have just one or two food crops or agricultural products, their income is at higher risk.

Producing a wider range of crops or products — known as agricultural diversification — provides farmers with a more stable income and better living standards, and enables sustainable use of natural resources. In the context of orangutan conservation, providing farmers around the Leuser buffer zone with a diverse range of income streams means they are less likely to need to fall back on logging or on expanding their fields into the forest.

It also reduces the risk of conflict with orangutans, as their income will take less of a hit if orangutans and other animals eat some of their fruit crops.

All the trees are planted in bamboo polybags — an alternative to plastic polybags which reduces plastic waste and, because the bamboo is breathable, prevents the seedlings rotting or overheating as well. That's what this guide is for, showing all the info you need for each crop in the game. I hope to make figuring out which crops to plant, easier for you. The farm space is generally the same as in the Gameboy Advance game. The water pond was originally next to the farm fruit tree, but in the Switch remake, the pond moved next to the horse barn. The area where the pond used to be is now for fruit trees. Up to 5 fruit trees can be placed on your farm. When you first start on grandpa's farm, you'll have one fruit tree.
